Katie, who lives in Cudworth, spent two years training to become a veterinary nurse. Her course included studying at the College of Animal Welfare in Leeds for one day each week, carrying out assignments and taking two major examinations.

She said: “I’ve always wanted to work with animals and I really enjoy the variety of work that I get at Abbey Vets.”

Practice Principal Tony Duffy said: “We are delighted that Katie is now fully qualified. Training veterinary nurses highlights our ongoing commitment to training and development to ensure that we offer the best possible animal care.”

After leaving school Katie studied for a National Diploma in Animal Care at Barnsley College and worked for Abbey Vets part time before joining the company as a full time auxiliary nurse seven years ago.
